Special Education at Arvada West High School

The Special Education Department at Arvada West:

  • Fosters independence in each student.
  • Presumes competence of each student.
  • Supports students in determining their success criteria.
  • Encourages positive adult relationships with each student.
  • Teaches appropriate self-advocacy.
  • Champions for self-determination.
  • Promotes perseverance.
  • Reinforces positive self-image in each student.
  • Advocates for an environment of inclusivity.

Mission

The Arvada West Special Education Department will increase independence in students who have exceptionalities by providing explicit instruction and guidance on self-advocacy which will allow for improved achievement and postsecondary workforce readiness.

Vision

The department will provide specially designed instruction based on evidence-based practices for students who have IEPs to ensure every student’s postsecondary goals are attained.
